Welcome to the Blanca Gomez shop
I was born 30 years ago in Madrid, where I currently live.
I began drawing as a child; well, I suppose everybody draws as a child... but I'm still on it! Having some background in advertising and graphic design, in the past years I have developed my career mainly as a graphic designer, but I currently spend most of my time illustrating, and also making art crafts: painting, and cutting paper, and getting my hands dirty (which I love).
Simple things inspire me & my work, which is often described as "colourful", "playful" and "whimsical". My website is called "cosas mínimas", which means "tiny things" in Spanish, and, in fact, I think that this very name explains better than any other statement I could write the kind of work I do. I like making small things with care, with conscious references to the past, and combining the possibilities of the graphic design & the illustration.
If there is a special feature in the kind of illustrator I am, it is perhaps that my work is very often based on characters; they are depicted alone most of the time, and very often thoughtful, walking under the rain or wandering around the city. Sometimes, this character disappears, and an anonymous city becomes the main character. My characters and cities are often optimist and shining, as life is already dark enough; so I always try to give a joyful touch to my work, but sometimes some sort of nostalgia emerges anyway.
When I'm not drawing, I like spending time traveling and making analogical photos.
My aim for the future is quite simple: just to continue drawing and working on my own projects, and these other projects that I really love, and that I was lucky enough so far to be offered to collaborate with.
