The Buildings of Disaster "Ford's Theater" Miniature by Boym Partners
Ford's Theater in Washington DC, the building where President Lincoln was shot on April 14, 1865.
Buildings of Disaster are miniature replicas of famous structures where tragic or terrible events happened to take place. These small monuments make a different, populist history of architecture, one based on emotional involvement rather than on scholarly appreciation. Inevitably, the sites of tragic events become involuntary monuments and tourist destinations.
Originally produced for our 1998 catalogue Souvenirs for the End of the Century in a limited edition of 500, many monuments have sold out. The collection will continue with new buildings.
Every object is individually cast of heavy, specially formulated material: bonded nickel. Each building is hand-finished and consecutively numbered.
