The Buildings of Disaster "Hands Of Victory" Miniature by Boym Partners
Buildings of Disaster, a collection of miniature monuments devoted to places of tragic events, continues with this 2003 edition.
Hands of Victory, a pair of triumphal arches, were built by Saddam Hussein in 1989 to celebrate his claimed victory in the Iran-Iraq war. Thousands of Iranian helmets from the battlefield were piled around the foundation of each hand.
In April 2003, the monument's site itself became a war battleground. Originally slated for destruction, Hands of Victory were instead put under American millitary protection.
Each Object is individually cast of bonded metal, hand-finished, and numbered. No more than 500 will be made. The piece is 6". Each building is hand-finished and consecutively numbered.
