A little something about Furni from the creators themselves.

"Started a little over 4 years ago by Devin Barrette and Myself (Mike Giles), Furni began as a “custom” furniture operation. Back then we cashed in our unemployment cheques and, tired of working for the “man”, decided to go it alone. Using our first deposit cheque to pay for tools we managed to rent a small shop and dig in…..lucky for us Devins cabinet making skills and my limited knowledge of design got us a good start. These days we are shifting focus more and more to exploring and creating our own designs; we’re still very hands on, from picking the rough lumber all the way to staining, finishing, boxing and shipping the final product. We are just a two man operation, but proud of the flexability and control it gives us over the end product. If you guys keep on buying we will keep on creating!"

Furni's Give a Hoot creed:

"Every little bit helps" said the old lady as she pee'd in the ocean. "We're not really positive about what the last part of the proverb means, but we sure like the sound of the start of it. That's why here at Furni we are taking steps to do 'wood good' every step of the way. We are a small design driven company with the hopes of taking on Goliath someday and for that to happen, it's important for us to get things right from the start. We are just getting going but currently:

: Our sheet stock (plywood and particle board) comes from a US based FSC certified company who
carries ISO 14001 certification, awarded for their good environmental management practices.

: The acrylic sheets that we use are supplied by another US company, which maintains an Environmental Managment System that strives to continuously improve, monitor and reduce it's impact on the environment.

: Our staining and finishing process uses water based products, designed specifically to offer multitudes of health related and environmental advantages.

: Whenever possible we choose to use domestically sourced components and raw materials to help support the local economy.

: The cardboard boxes used for our packing are all 100% recyclable and are from 'big-business' over runs that would otherwise be thrown away.

Don't get us wrong, we aren't saints....We still do have an old gas guzzling van that should have been taken off the road years ago, but we only use it when it's necessary. All we are saying is that when it comes to our health, your health and the environments future, Furni gives a hoot."
