Joe Colombo, Inventing the Future, produced by the Vitra Design Museum in cooperation with the Milan Triennale and Studio Joe Colombo, is the first international retrospective to pay tribute to the work of one of the most brilliant creators of his time. The exhibition comprises works, documents and items never previously exhibited, including original pieces and prototypes of his most famous pieces of furniture, sketches, plans, brochures, architectural models, several films and original photographs.

This Italian designer’s creations – ceiling televisions, pivoting walls with built-in minibars, underground ‘nuclear’ cities, futuristic but functional living modules – are a reflection both of the 1960s and his fascination with new technologies enabling the improvement of everyday life
